I never turn my back on a freshly dug grave. The loose top soil can make it difficult to hear the dead clawing their way back out. I usually find some grave yard appropriate object to balance at the head of the grave. At least until the ground hardens with the passing of a full rotation of the seasons. Something that will make noise when the ground underneath it shifts but not look out of place. Best to keep the locals focussed on the living, they will know of death soon enough.
